Dr. Angel Gavieiro until recently led the strategy function for Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) region within Wholesale Banking and International at Wells Fargo, based in London.
In this role, he supported EMEA management by driving lines of business and function to develop best-in-class strategy and planning. He was also a voting member of EMEA Operating Committee and part of the EMEA Brexit Steering Committee.
Angel has more than 25 years of senior executive experience as a banker and strategist in Corporate & Investment Banking and Retail & Commercial Banking. He has worked based in the UK, UAE and Spain, covering North America, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
He held senior executive roles as divisional head of strategy & business development for Barclays’ International Retail & Commercial Banking division (04-07) and Lloyds’ Wholesale Banking & Markets division (08-12). He also ran P&L business as head of domestic corporate markets for Al Hilal Bank (UAE, 14-15) and Agency Treasury Services and Corporate Finance for Lloyds’ Financial Institutions Group unit (08-09).
Just before joining Wells Fargo in Feb. 2018, Angel was founder and managing partner of AG Strategy & Partners in Abu Dhabi and London (15-17), a boutique consulting and advisory service, including digital transformation and FinTech investments and partnerships with banks.
Angel’s career foundation was debt capital markets at SocGen (94-00) and management consulting at McKinsey & Co (01-04).
Angel had an MBA from Duke University (02) and Ph.D. in financial economy from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (04). He is also a Fulbright scholar and liveryman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers of the City of London.
